Megan Janet White is a body-based performer, teacher, choreographer, installation artist and costume designer, based in Brisbane Australia.
Currently, Megan works with Butoh and Oki-do Yoga, however she also draws on two decades of practical studies across Fashion Design, Visual Arts, Somatic Awareness, Body Mind Centering, Egyptian Dance, Taiko Drumming and Suzuki Method.
Megan’s work is known for its poetic, evocative and intense bodily forms, mixed with elaborate layers of hand-crafted costuming that is earthy and magical, floating somewhere between clowns, ghosts, fairies and angels.
In the last few years Megan has pursued her practice via several overlapping training and performance groups she has founded. She is the teacher of the Theatre of a Renegade Yogi (TORY), a community class that integrates Oki-do yoga and butoh dance.... and with sound artist Luke Jaaniste, she co-directs Theatre of Thunder (TOT), a performance ensemble that melds her choreography and costuming with immersive soundscapes and atmospheric installation. The performers in TOT are all members of TORY, and they also appear under Megan’s direction as the Stormbodies.
Megan has been hosting Butoh workshops with prominent teachers/dancers in Brisbane for over 10 years, and she continues to teach, perform and study Butoh in Japan, Europe and Australia and currently trains with OZ Frank Theatre.
